Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda: $112.3M investment enables safer and faster access to world class medical care
As a result of $112.3M OLDCC Community investment funding, the State of Maryland Department of Transportation and Montgomery County significantly improved access to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The enhancements include five road intersection improvement projects and a multi-modal transportation project consisting of a shallow pedestrian underpass, high-speed elevators and a 135-foot deep tunnel. The projects enhance transportation alternatives supporting Naval Support Activity Bethesda (NSAB) and improve access to multiple transit options including direct access to Metrorail. These five projects collectively enable more than one million patients, staff, visitors, wounded warriors, veterans and their families to safely and more quickly access world class medical care at Walter Reed keeping faith with service members and their families. The project funding consists of an $112.3M OLDCC investment plus leverages and an additional $60.5M from the US Department of Transportation, State of Maryland, Montgomery County, and the DoD Defense Access Roads Program.
